Steps Involved in Idaho State Cosmetology Exam

STEP 1: VERIFY YOUR ELIGIBILITY

The first step to taking the Cosmetology exam is to register yourself for the examination. You can enroll for the exam on the official website of the Idaho Barber and Cosmetology Services Licensing Board. Before you begin the enrollment process, you will have to check for your eligibility to apply for the cosmetology license.

The minimum practical hours required to be eligible to apply for the Idaho State Board of Cosmetology Exam are as follows:

1600 hours for Cosmetology.
900 hours for Barber.
1500 hours for Barber-Stylist.
400 hours for Nail Technology.
600 hours for Esthetics.
600 hours for Electrology.
900 hours for Haircutter.

STEP 2: APPLY FOR THE IDAHO STATE BOARD OF COSMETOLOGY EXAMINATION

Once you meet the eligibility criteria set by the Idaho State Board of Cosmetology Exam, the next step is to apply for the exam. You may apply for the Cosmetology exam on the official website of the Idaho State Board of Cosmetology License. You will have to fill out the application and attach a few documents for the board to process your application. The application is available on the official website.

You may have to submit the following documents for the board to process your application further.

APPLICATION BY EXAMINATION:

Your completed application.
Identification issued by the government – A passport, a military ID, or a valid driver’s license.
A copy of your transcript.
A copy of your marriage license.
Application fee and original license fee.

APPLICATION BY ENDORSEMENT:

Your completed application.
Identification issued by the government – A passport, a military ID, or a valid driver’s license.
A copy of your transcript.
A copy of your marriage license.
Application fee and endorsement fee.

Note: Applicants must hold a current license that is valid from a state with standards that are equal to Idaho standards or from another state with at least 1 year of work experience within the last 3 years.

STEP 3: PAY YOUR FEES

Note: The fees are non-refundable. Make money orders and checks payable to IDOPL. All the returned checks will be subjected to a fee of $20 and the application will become invalid.

STEP 4: SCHEDULING YOUR EXAM

Once you pay the exam fees, the next step is to schedule your Cosmetology exam.

To schedule your exam, you will have to register at the official website of DL Roope.

To apply for the Cosmetology exam, you will have to download the following from the official website of DL Roope.

NIC Written Candidate Information Bulletin (CIB).
ID Practical Candidate Information Bulletin (CIB).
ID Paper Application.

For reschedule your exam, you can download the paper-based rescheduling application from the official DL Roope website or login to DL Roope to fill out the online application.

The rescheduling fee is as follows:

The practical exam fee – is $124
The computer-based written exam fee – is $65

STEP 5: ON THE EXAMINATION DAY

Once you register and schedule your exam, you must take the following documents along with you on examination day. The documents you should take with you on the day of the exam are as follows:

Photo identification issued by the government:

Must be original, valid, and unexpired.
Must have your full and legal name that matches the name on the admission document.
The recognizable photo of yourself should match your photo on the admission document.
All the submitted documents must be in good condition.
Your admission notice and a valid government-issued ID with a photo and a signature, a valid passport, or another acceptable official photo ID.

Other details to be taken care of on examination day are:

You will be provided with an admission letter, based on the details you submitted in your application. Verify the details prior to your scheduled examination day.
You will not be allowed to take personal belongings into the examination room. You will be given a designated space to keep your personal belongings.
You should follow the seating arrangement as mentioned in the seating chart.
You will not be allowed to leave the examination room without proper permission from your proctor.

STEP 6: TAKE THE EXAM

In the state of Idaho, there are 2 Cosmetology exams. Namely,

The Cosmetology Theory Written Exam.
The Practical Exam.

The duration of the practical exam is approximately 4-5 hours. You may take the written exam before or after the practical exam. The duration of the written exam is 90 minutes. The written exam is a computer-based exam.

STEP 7: RESULTS ANALYSIS

Once you complete the written and practical Cosmetology exam, you may check your results on the official website of DL Roope. The passing score required is 75% or above. If you score 75% or above, you are now eligible to receive your cosmetology license.

STEP 8: RECEIVE YOUR IDAHO STATE BOARD OF COSMETOLOGY LICENSE

Once you pass both the practical and the written theoretical Cosmetology exam, you will receive your Idaho State Board of Cosmetology license through the mail.

To renew your license, you will have to visit the official website and fill out the form to proceed with the renewal process. You will have to enter the following information:

FOR INDIVIDUALS:

License/Registration Number.
Date of Birth.
Social Security Number (SSN).

FOR BUSINESSES:

Date of Birth.
Employee Identification Number (EIN).

Note: Continuing Education (CE) is not required to maintain a Cosmetology or Barber license in Idaho.
