STEP 1: VERIFY YOUR ELIGIBILITY

STEP 4: SCHEDULING OF YOUR EXAM

Once you pay your exam fees, the next step is to schedule your exam.

You may have to submit a student application at your school with the following details in the application:

  • Update your personal information.
  • Application questionnaire.
  • Required documents with your application.
  • Select testing date and time.
  • Pay the testing fee.

You have to schedule your test within 15 days in accordance with NAC644A.673 once you graduate and have cleared your practical exam. Applicant must have completed your academic and financial requirements to the school before you schedule your test. The Board office will update you with a text message when you are eligible to schedule your test.

The documents you may need to provide at the time of scheduling your exam are as follows:

  • A passport photo with good background quality.
  • A copy of a photo ID issued by the government.
  • All photo IDs issued by the government must be in your current name.
  • All photo IDs issued by the government should be active, current, and should not be expired.
  • Work authorization documents must be provided (social security card, valid ITIN number, permanent resident card / green card, work visa)

If you have graduated from a licensed cosmetology school in the State of Nevada, you will have to take your practical exam at your school.

STEP 5: ON THE EXAMINATION DAY

On the day of the examination, you should arrive 20 minutes prior to the scheduled exam time.

You have to bring two forms of identification documents:

  • One form of identification is given by a Government agency with your photograph and signature.
  • Other documents can be secondary identification like credit card/debit card.

STEP 6: TAKE THE EXAM

In the State of Nevada, there are 3 exams to undertake to apply for the Cosmetology License Exam.

The State Law Test

The State Law Test is a practical online test with 25 questions. You will have to score 75% or above to pass the test. The law test is required for all the professionals licensed in Nevada.

The Theory Test

  • The Theory Test consists of 85 questions for Esthetics with an hour and a half time limit.
  • 60 questions for Electrology with an hour and a half time limit.
  • 120 questions for Cosmetology with a 2-hour time limit.
  • 55 questions for Hair Braiding with an hour and a half time limit.
  • 100 questions for Hair Design with a 2-hour time limit.
  • 60 questions for Instructor with an hour and a half time limit.
  • 60 questions for Nail Technology with an hour and a half time limit.

You will have to score 75% or above to pass the test.

The Practical Test

The Cosmetology Practical Test has 3 Categories–Hair Service Basic Setup, Skin Service Basic Setup, and Nail Service Setup tests.

The Esthetician Practical Test has a Basic Skincare test.

The Hair Braiding Practical Test has a Basic Hair Braiding test.

The Hair Design Practical Test has a Basic Hair Care Setup test.

The Nail Technology Practical Test has a Basic Nail Care test.

All the tests have a Blood Exposure Procedure at the end of each segment.
